Introduction of
the organisation
The Academic Society of Japanese Gardens aims to research and discuss Japanese gardens in a comprehensive and multifaceted manner, while also making Japanese gardens the focus of our study of Japanese culture. Our research into Japanese gardens emphasizes diverse approaches not limited to the specialized field of landscaping, but including the fields of architecture and archaeology, the spiritual cultures of philosophy and religion (especially Buddhist culture), and even arts, craftwork, painting, and garden creation sites.
The purpose of the Academic Society of Japanese Gardens is to explore Japanese gardens and, through the intersection, accumulation, and mutual improvement of various forms of practical wisdom (voices from the field) and theoretical wisdom (research results) about Japanese gardens, to contribute to the process of passing down and further developing Japanese garden culture and technique.
